13th Annual V-8s and Veterans Luncheon

By Ken Bounds

The club tradition of a luncheon to honor those who have served in the United States Military continued with our 13th Annual V-8s & Veterans luncheon at Sam’s of Arlington on Saturday, November 10.  A large group of 34 members, family, and friends turned out for some V-8 camaraderie and a  delicious lunch.  The seasonable weather that we had early in the week with highs in the 50s had left us.  With the high barely above freezing, most folks drove modern iron; only Jim and Harriet Taylor brought an Early V-8 – their ’49 Ford Convertible.

Many thanks go out to Earl & Gene Heintz for once again making the arrangements.  Unfortunately they were not able to join us for the luncheon as Earl was recuperating from oral surgery a couple of days earlier.  The food, drinks, and service were excellent once again.  Ken Bounds had a short program to say a big “Thank You” to those present who served their country in the military.  He reminisced about some of the World War II Veterans who were with us when we started having these luncheons and who have now passed on.

Our thanks to all the members who attended and made this an enjoyable event, including  President and First Lady John & Robin Emmering, Ken & Carolyn Bounds, Ron & Arlene Blum, Elaine Braun, Tom & Judy Buscaglia, Ron Dopke & Bernice Short, Gladys Duzell, Terry & Kitty Freihage , John Judge with his friend Yolanda   Rojos, Frank Koeder, Frank & Phyllis Madrigali, Pat Maroney, Joe & Millie Novak, Tom O’Donnell, John Slobodnik, Stan Stack, Ron & Colleen Steck, Jim & Harriet Taylor, Jeff Trilling, Len & Irene Vinyard, and George & Dawn Zulas.
