Safety Check, Photo Shoot, and Luncheon
By Ken Bounds
On May 6, after a rainout the previous weekend, 15 members met at Roundhead’s of
Lombard for a vehicle safety check and photo shoot.
We were also lucky to have our own Frank Koeder, a certified appraiser,
present to provide vehicle appraisals.
Alas, no one took advantage that that opportunity.
President John Emmering manned the clipboard and conducted the safety checks
with several assistants while Ken took photos using Roundhead’s unique façade as
a backdrop. There was plenty of
time for tire kicking, lively conversation, and checking out each others’ rides.
One special thrill for us was seeing an old familiar Early V-8 displayed by our
newest member, Ray McMahon. Ray
purchased former NIRG President Marty Duling’s ‘36 Club Cabriolet back in 1996
and most of us had not seen it since.
It was a real blast from the past for those of us who followed that car
down the road on tours many times.
The hard luck award goes to John Scheve, who ran out of gas in his ‘37 between
the trailer and the parking lot.
The long distance award goes to Eric Kozmic who came all the way from South
Carolina to drive his dad’s Mercury to the event.
At 11:00 am, we went into Roundhead’s to enjoy lunch.
The food and service were very good and the beverages were plentiful.
We hope that everyone had an enjoyable time.
