Eleventh Annual V-8s
and Veterans Luncheon
By John Emmering
The tradition of honoring our members who served in the Armed Forces continued
Saturday November 12th as 24 NIRG members and friends gathered for the Eleventh
Annual V-8s and Veterans Luncheon, held at Sam’s of Arlington.
Participants appreciated Earl Heintz’s efforts at planning and organizing
the event. As the group awaited their meals John Emmering gave a greeting and
read a portion of President Eisenhower’s proclamation of the first Veterans Day
November 11, 1954, after it had been changed from Armistice Day.
A big hand was given to our member veterans in attendance.
With the mild autumn weather experienced on that sunny Saturday, four members
were able to drive a Ford V-8 or other antique car.
Most notable was the first appearance at a club event of Michael Mohawk’s
1950 Ford Custom Tudor which was parked out with Tom Buscaglia’s 1951 Ford
Custom Tudor, Ron Dopke’s 1954 Packard Cavalier 4-door, and John Emmering’s 1951
Ford Custom Fordor.
Everyone enjoyed a great lunch and had a wonderful opportunity to visit and discuss some of their early V-8 automotive projects. Those who participated were Ron & Arlene Blum, Tom Buscaglia, Norm Collins & granddaughter Corrine, Ron Dopke & friend Bernice, John & Robin Emmering, Earl Heintz, John Judge, Frank & Phyllis Madrigali, Michael & Grace Mohawk, Tom O’Donnell, Russ & Janice Shmerl, Stan & JoAnne Stack, Len & Irene Vinyard, and George & Dawn Zulas.
