Pioneer Turners Luncheon

By Ken Bounds

On March 7 Charles Kaiser hosted his annual Pioneer Turners corned beef luncheon to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  Once again he invited members of the Northern Illinois Regional Group to join the fun.  The luncheon was held at Café Prague in Chicago.  Unfortunately, winter was hanging on and didn’t allow us to drive our Early V-8s.

As guests began streaming in before 1:00 pm, the good service kept the drinks flowing.  And the guests from both the Turners group and the NIRG kept coming.  Before long, the available space was packed.  It was very nice to see several members that we don’t get to see that often, including Norm Collins, Ron Dopke, and Jordon & Corinne Beller.  George Zulas seemed to be getting around much better after his serious accident last summer.

Before the food was served, there were appetizers on the table and we had plenty of time to talk and ruminate about the end of winter.  When the sandwiches were served, everyone agreed they were delicious, along with the potato pancakes.  Toward the end of the meal, Charlie started a video of some of the many auto-related attractions in Auburn, Indiana.  The afternoon was topped off with door prize drawings.  Several of our members went home with an unexpected bottle of wine.

Enjoying the festivities from the NIRG were our host Charles Kaiser, Jordon & Corinne Beller, Ron & Arlene Blum, Ken Bounds, Norm Collins with his granddaughter Corinne, Ron Dopke, John Judge, Frank Koeder, John & Este Scheve with their sons Michael and Elliot, Ron Steck, and George & Dawn Zulas with their son Tom and his girlfriend Denise.
