Eggs
& Eights Breakfast
By Ken Bounds
On Sunday, March 30, we finally forgot about the harsh winter and got together
for breakfast at Egg Harbor Café in Geneva.
Twenty-three V-8ers brought out five Early V-8s on a sunny Sunday
morning. The high temperature of 56° seemed like a heat
wave after a month of below-average temperatures.
It
was a real treat to see so many happy faces.
It was also our first chance to meet in person our newest member, Mark
Hume. Mark’s wife Denise was not
able to attend; we hope to meet her soon at another club event.
Great to meet you Mark!
We
thank Ron Steck for arranging this event this year.
We missed Tom & Judy Buscaglia, who have arranged Eggs & Eights in prior
years. It seems they have escaped to
a nicer climate this year.
Those attending were our host Ron Steck, President Scott Gilday, Ron & Arlene
Blum, Ken & Carolyn Bounds, John Emmering, Mark Hume, Roger Hunz, John Judge,
Frank Madrigali, Joey Novak & Millie Olds, Gary & Dawn Osborne, Dan & Diane
Pudelek, John & Este Scheve, John & Barb Slobodnik, and Larry & Jerry Webb.
Egg Harbor Café is a very busy place on a Sunday morning, but we had plenty of
room this year at a long table to accommodate our entire group.
The service was attentive and prompt and the food was delicious.
We had time for plenty of enjoyable conversation before our food arrived
and during the meal. We even had a
chance to sell a meet gearshift knob and some raffle tickets.
But with the number of people lining up for tables, we had to cut our
stay short after eating.
While the ladies were happy to discuss planning for the Central National Meet
and other important matters, the guys seemed more content with sticking their
heads under hoods. Of particular
interest was checking out Mark’s ‘38 Standard.
He told us briefly about how his dad had acquired the car and wanted to
give it the look of a ‘50s era hot rod.
He did a good job! Of course
most of us were pleased to find a mildly modified flathead under the hood with
Offenhauser heads, a 4-bbl carburetor, and other period modifications.
The car retains the original suspension and driveline.
We were quite fortunate to have one of the nicest days of the year to date for
this gathering. It was really
enjoyable to get the cars out after a winter that never wanted to end.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made this a fun day.
