Veterans Day Luncheon

By Ken Bounds

Thirty-two V-8ers enjoyed camaraderie along with great food and drinks and outstanding service at our annual Veterans Day Luncheon held on November 10, once again at Sam’s of Arlington in Arlington Heights.  As our mild autumn continued, the promise of mid-60’s temperatures should have attracted several Early V-8s for possibly a final run for 2012.  Unfortunately, an unpredicted cloudburst kept most of the cars in their garages – only three classics joined the modern cars in the parking lot.

The brief shower did not dampen the spirit for President and First Lady Tom & Madeleine O’Donnell, our hosts Earl & Gene Heintz, Ken & Carolyn Bounds, Tom Buscaglia, Joe & Marie Dispensa, Ron Dopke with guest Norm Lang, Lloyd & Gladys Duzell, Scott Gilday, Terry & Kitty Freihage, John Judge, Joe & Nell Kozmic, Frank & Phyllis Madrigali, Dan Pudelek, Joe & Delice Serritella, John & Barb Slobodnik, Collin Sprau, Stan & JoAnne Stack, Ron Steck, and Len & Irene Vinyard.

Our Veterans Day Luncheon is nothing formal, just a little celebration to honor our members who have served in the armed forces.  After a few words to recognize our Veterans, we asked each of them to stand up.  By a process of elimination, we determined who had served the longest.  Ron Steck easily won with over 25 years of service and had his lunch tab picked up in return.

Thank you to Earl and Gene Heintz for acting as our hosts and making the arrangements.  More importantly, thank you to all who have served and thanks to the members for attending.
