Barrington Concours d'Elegance
By Ken Bounds
On Sunday, July 15, NIRG
members showed 13 Early V-8s at the Barrington Concours d'Elegance on the
fairways of Makray Memorial Golf Club.
Three members had their cars judged: John & Este Scheve - 1937 Ford
Standard Tudor, Ron & Arlene Blum - 1940 Ford Deluxe Fordor, and Ken Bounds -
1950 Ford Crestliner. Scott & Nicole
Gilday showed their 1941 Ford Convertible in the Legacy area.
Showing their V-8s in the Club Corral area were Carolyn Bounds - 1936
Ford Roadster, Frank Koeder - 1939 Ford Convertible, Len Vinyard - 1939 Ford
Convertible, Tom O’Donnell - 1940 Mercury Sedan-Coupe, John Judge - 1950 Ford
Convertible, Tom Buscaglia - 1951 Ford Tudor, Joe Kozmic - 1953 Mercury
Monterey, Dan Pudelek - 1953 Ford Victoria, and Stan Stack - 1953 Ford Tudor.
Our thanks go out to Scott
Gilday for coordinating this event and assisting everyone getting registered.
Scott and Nicole are founding members of the Barrington Concours Legacy
Club; last year their ‘41 Convertible received an Award of Distinction at the
Concours. This year was no exception
as their Convertible received a Legacy Award.
Not to be outdone, John & Este’s ‘37 Ford was awarded an Award of
Distinction. Congratulations!
This year’s Concours, which
benefited the Barrington Area Conservation Trust, showcased about 90 outstanding
examples of truly unique automobiles and motorcycles from the Chicago area, in
addition to the dozens of cars in the corral areas.
We spent a delightful day wandering the fairways checking out some
incredible vehicles, answering questions about our cars, and trying to find any
cool spot to get out of the withering 95° heat.
A local online newspaper, the Barrington Patch, even interviewed our own
Len Vinyard for their story about the event.
Scott & Nicole were pleased with the participation and the number of
vehicles from our Club that made this a successful event.
