3rd Annual LaSalle Street Auto Row Show

By Ken Bounds

On August 21 member Joe Dispensa’s group Friends of LaSalle Street held their third annual car show to promote revitalization of this historic area of downtown Aurora, IL.  The sunny weather brought a perfect day for showing antique cars and supporting this worthwhile cause.

The long line of vehicles lining both sides of the street included six NIRG members showing classics.  Members showing their cars included Ken Bounds, 1936 Roadster; John Emmering, 1949 Fordor; John Judge, 1950 Convertible; Joe Kozmic, 1963 Corvette; Frank Madrigali, 1951 F-1 Pickup; and Dan Pudelek, 1953 Victoria.  Other members attending the show without a classic car included Joe & Marie Dispensa, John Slobodnik who assisted Joe with the show as a volunteer and John Scheve.

Participants spent the day enjoying the car show, touring some of the historic buildings on the block, and hanging out with old friends.  There were the usual options for lunch and many of us took advantage of the delicious freshly-barbequed brisket or pulled pork.  As has been our tradition, we enjoyed our lunch with a cold beverage at the local Elks club which was open to the public for the day.

Around 2:30 group President Joe Dispensa awarded a baker’s dozen trophies.  Ken Bounds’ Roadster won best car of the Thirties while Joe Kozmic’s Corvette took best of the Sixties.

We thank the members who came out to support a very good cause for a fellow club member.  We thank Joe Dispensa for putting on a nice show and for his work toward revitalizing an important part of Aurora’s history.
